EP Review: 'Vital Signs'

Updated: Oct 25, 2021

Alternative pop band Vital Signs creates an emotional kaleidoscopic self-titled EP that is sure to turn heads in the genre.

Alternative pop has been a genre that has been fruitful with its presence of great talent throughout recent years. While this is a great thing to have experienced, it has also made it harder for bands to stand out within the scene and make that lasting aural impression on our ears. When it comes to the infectious sounds of Colorado native band Vital Signs, their captivating presence within the alternative pop scene is something people have not been able to turn away from since their debut.

"Vital Signs blows us away with another impressive track, "Gaslighting." With the instrumental fervor taking a front seat on this track, the titanic guitar riffs within this track combined with dazzling atmospheric touches and percussive cadence, it's a moment on this EP that is not to be missed."

Their eclectic multi-layered sound on their new self-titled EP proves this tenfold. A journey of self-discovery that even surpasses their prior releases, Vital Signs is here to prove that they possess the staying power to contend with the best of them within the alternative pop scene.

Their self-titled EP starts with a beautiful, euphonious, high-impact number, "Bloodsucker." The melodic vocal direction combined with the vitriol behind Taylor Spain's guitar riffs creates the perfect introductory experience to the EP, making way for other fantastic experiences on the EP.

As if that was not enough to digest for a first experience, Vital Signs blows us away with another impressive track, "Gaslighting." With the instrumental fervor taking a front seat on this track, the titanic guitar riffs within this track combined with dazzling atmospheric touches and percussive cadence, it's a moment on this EP that is not to be missed.

Brenden Worthington's vocals shine once again last track and single, "Sick." One of the best moments on the Self-titled EP, "Sick" shows the band at their best vocally, instrumentally, and lyrically, ending the EP on a fantastic high note.

Vital Signs has crafted an EP that performs on an alternative pop playing field but does a phenomenal job at combining the bounce and power of post-hardcore and metalcore elements. If Vital Signs continues to deliver these spry and lyrically satisfying heavy-hitters, this band will indeed have a solid future within the genre.
