EP Review: Wither Within 'Mental Demos'

Ontario native metalcore band Wither Within releases a uniquely gorgeous horror-themed instrumental EP Mental Demos that will pique many fans' interest within the genre.

Wither Within is not what you would call your quintessential metalcore band in the Ontario scene. Upon listening to the rising act within the alternative scene, you will instantly see something uncommon and intriguing about their presence and delivery.

“Other gripping moments on this EP are "Runaway" setting another kind of distinct tone for Mental Demos, it forges a different path for the EP instrumentally but never loses the constructive focus aesthetically. While different from the previous tracks, it's an inviting distraction that will keep listeners invested for the closing experience. ”

Their new instrumental release Mental Demos proves this, combining their love for horror culture, heavy instrumentalism, and a thirst for something unique in the music industry today, this only scratches the surface of the creative power this band holds.

Starting with the beautifully done atmospheric number, "Everybody Loves Junji Ito," the track begins with a gorgeous piano synth solo that leads into a frenzy of syncopating percussive sections that ultimately intertwine together smoothly into aggressive calculated guitar runs.

Other gripping moments on this EP are "Runaway" setting another kind of distinct tone for Mental Demos, it forges a different path for the EP instrumentally but never loses the constructive focus aesthetically. While different from the previous tracks, it's an inviting distraction that will keep listeners invested for the closing experience.

Mental Demos completes on a dynamic and gravid note with "Dead By Deadlight." With magnetic chugging guitar riffs and melodic piano accents within the backdrop, it's a lovely way to end Mental Demos.

Wither Within is only beginning to show their creative chops with Mental Demos. Combining horror aesthetics, metalcore, hardcore, deathcore, and synth elements to create something that is intense and unexampled within the genre, Wither Within shows a promising future if they continue to deliver unique experiences like this.
