Versatile artist Jeremy Edmond unveils his new single, "Searchlights," and announces the upcoming release of "Some Way," both featured on an EP set to be released on June 26th.
In the most unexpected corners of the world, music often finds its way into existence. In the vibrant state of Connecticut, Jeremy Edmond, known as J. Edmond, is a multi-talented artist, embracing the roles of singer, songwriter, author, and radio DJ. From an early age, he harbored a deep-seated passion for becoming a musician and sharing stories through his art.

His journey began with the electrifying sounds of legends like The Beatles, Klaatu, The Posies, and Badfinger, each note igniting a fire within him that would later blossom into his own musical creations. Through his solo endeavors and his band, Chasing Nothing, J. Edmond channels his enthusiasm for rock music, which resonates through the airwaves on stations like 99.1 PLR and Star 99.9. His creativity knows no bounds; he also hosts the podcast "Unlikely Places" and has penned a compelling book titled "Journey to Starlights."
Amidst these diverse projects, J.Edmond has released "Search Lights" and will be releasing an evocative new single, "Some Way," part of an upcoming EP debuting on June 26th. This poignant track delves into the complexities and struggles of living with bipolar disorder, illustrating the emotional landscape with raw honesty. Through his music, J. Edmond seeks to connect with those facing similar challenges, offering solace and assurance that they are not alone on their journey.
Hey Jeremy, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you for joining Into The Void on UNCVRD. Your multifaceted talents as a writer, singer, songwriter, and radio DJ are truly inspiring! What was the pivotal moment or experience that drew you into the world of music? What ignited that spark for you?
Jeremy: It would most likely be hearing The Beatles when I was very young. By the time I was 17, I had discovered the world of power pop, falling in love with bands like Klaatu, The Posies, and Badfinger. The true spark, though, came from my dad and my high school teacher, Ralph Riello, whom I now gig for through his company, Alpha Dog. For my senior project in high school, I organized a full concert of original songs and covers to benefit the Best Buddies charity.
As a radio DJ, you have an impressive presence with shows on 99.1 PLR and Star 99.9 in Connecticut. Additionally, you host the engaging podcast Unlikely Places. What inspired you to take on the role of a DJ and explore podcasting?
Jeremy: Just like with music, I was hooked at a young age. Believe it or not, I grew up listening to 99.1 PLR—thanks to my parents. It’s the most historic rock station in Connecticut and, as they say, the #1 rock station around. I hosted on Star for a bit, but these days it’s mostly PLR. Unlikely Places is a show I started on my own, but it really took shape once I teamed up with David Skaff and Matthew Graham. I’ve interviewed some incredible guests—Matthew Caws of Nada Surf, Kevin Godley of 10cc, Joey Molland of Badfinger (RIP), and even Terry Draper of Klaatu, who sadly just passed away at 73. The radio show UPPRr was nominated and became a finalist for the ISSA Music Awards this year!
Your creative pursuits don't stop there; you're also working on writing a novel, which is no small feat given your busy schedule. Could we explore that a bit? How does the process of writing your novel intertwine with your musical endeavors?
Jeremy: This fantasy book is going to be something truly special. The world won’t be ready for it. It’s the result of everything I’ve done—my concept album writing, radio drama storytelling, and the amazing people I’ve met along the way. That’s right—we’ve got two very special guests making appearances in book form, and yes, we actually got approval. All I can say for now is that one is a member of Beck, and the other is from The Figgs! The book is inspired by The Lord of the Rings and everything I love about fantasy, blended with my own musical adventures, like a wild comic book-style crossover event. The title is Journey to Starlights, the first in a three-book series called The Wire, which concludes with a final volume simply titled The Wire. Book two, Power Popped: A Tale of a Record Collector, is already almost finished—so there’s a lot more to come. Huge thanks to my editor, Josh Bradley, and my cover artist, JoeGhoul, for helping bring this vision to life!
Your single "Some Way" gives us an intriguing peek into your musical journey prior to the release of your new single "Search Lights" and the anticipated EP coming out on June 26th. Can you share what the creative process has been like for you? It’s clear that your music channels the vibrant influences of 80s and 90s rock and pop, especially within its energetic instrumentation.
Jeremy: There are too many to count—but they all find their way into my writing process, which is a journey in itself. It all starts with my guitar. I sit down, hit record, and free-verse an entire song on the spot. Then I let it sit for a bit. Later, I listen back, pull out my favorite parts, and start crafting lyrics to connect them into a complete song. From there, I decide whether the track fits better with my band, Chasing Nothing, or as a solo project under J. Edmond. If it’s for Chasing Nothing, Collin and I workshop it together until we lock into a sound we love. If it’s for my solo work, that’s when the dream team comes in: producer and drummer A. Michael Collins and bassist Paul Chastain of Matthew Sweet and Velvet Crush. Sometimes, we bring in guest musicians if the song calls for something extra. For our track Some Way, we were lucky to feature Fernando Perdomo and Danny Henry, who’s known for his work with Drake Bell. Once the core is recorded—often with parts tracked remotely (Paul’s in Japan and A. Michael’s in LA)—I finalize my own parts at home and send everything out to studios around the globe. Then I team up with the marketing experts at Lucky Penny and my manager, David Skaff, to put together the release strategy.
Lyrically, "Some Way" is a powerful reflection of the inner struggles we face daily. What personal experiences inspired you to craft this poignant song? Are these themes of searching and navigating uncertainty things that resonate deeply throughout the EP, without giving too much away?
Jeremy: I’ve always been open about the struggles I face living with bipolar disorder, and I share my story in hopes of helping others feel less alone. That honesty is at the heart of my music. I wrote a song to reflect that journey, and my EP Isolated Dew carries the same message throughout. This fall, I’m starting a new chapter: I’ll be going to college to become a music therapist. It’s a path I’m deeply passionate about—one rooted in the belief that music can heal. I want to show people that I’ll never back down. Whether it’s through my songs, my voice on the radio, or my future work in music therapy, I’m here to be a source of inspiration, support, and friendship for anyone who needs it.
During the creation of this EP, what insights have you gained about yourself and your artistic journey?
Jeremy: I’ve learned that I break under pressure—that stress affects me just like it does everyone else. And honestly, that realization has been one of the most important steps in my growth. I owe so much of that to my therapist, who’s helped me see myself more clearly. For a long time, I couldn’t say I was proud of who I was. But now, I can—and that means everything.
I know the release of the EP is just around the corner, but what else can we look forward to from you in the meantime?
Jeremy: I’m currently working on two new singles—one with Chasing Nothing and another for my solo project, J. Edmond. Stay tuned! There’s no time to slow down, and I’m beyond excited to be doing what I love while connecting with so many amazing people along the way. You can catch me on air with 99.1 PLR every Saturday from 6 to 10 AM!
