Post-hardcore/electronicore/horrorcore/Rap/R&B artist NYXKISS boldly transforms his sound with new emotionally charged electro-pop infused single "Nose Dive," featuring Keyawna Nikole.
The rock scene is constantly growing and evolving. Within that glowing transition, you will find fun and ambitious solo artists like NYXKISS.
“I feel I’ve finally stepped away from boxing myself into one sound or one genre. I’ve got lots of unreleased material that are night and day from each other. I feel that makes me a better artist knowing I’m comfortable with that.”
Reminding us how much electronicore and rap are still very much a lively and integral part of the scene, multi-genre artist NYXKISS' new emotionally engaging single, "Nose Dive" brings back the imaginative and infectious side of both genres.
Delivering a pop/dance element upgrade that is somewhat different from the artist's usual genre stomping grounds, NYXKISS makes a bold move with this track, stepping away from traditional boxed-in conformities, and embracing robust emotion and creativity as he never has done before. If NYXKISS stays within this inventive bliss point of his career, there is no telling where this artist will go this year.
What started NYxKISS? What's the backstory behind your artist name?
I wanted to change my artist name from just my name (Josh Naujokas) because people were super confused about how to say my last name, which I felt was bad from a marketing standpoint. So before I announced my first show, I had to think of a stage name, which is where my name now comes into play. NYXKISS came from how I show people how to say my last name, Ny-o-kiss. Then I just swapped the o with an x to make it more visually appealing.
What are your musical influences? What bands or artists influenced your latest single, "Nose Dive?"
I listen to a lot of Killstation, Brennen Savage, Lil Peep and Lil Tracy, Jeleel, Trippie Redd, Craig Xen, and more. I was just messing around with a sound on my keyboard and I was like dang, this sounds like 3oh!3. So I would say 3oh!3 and Sybyr are a big influence on this track.
How has this creative process been different from your other music releases in the past? This is also a bit different from the last single in terms of being instrumentally upbeat but still keeping in stride with emotionally honest lyricism.
A lot of my beats don’t have any sort of pop or dance element to them. So this song branches out into that side I’m not used to, and I’m so happy how it turned out. Also, this song has the best mix yet out of all my songs thanks to TarekTV of Lightminds Entertainment.
Lyrically, what is "Nose Dive" talking about here? There is this internal struggle between what is real and what is not. Even though it's not, we choose to stay there anyway, however brief that experience. It's a pretty dark topic. What made you want to write this song?
Yeah, I always like to write about dark and bleak stuff. Any sort of horror or scary vibes I can throw in there, I’m all for. I originally had some stuff written out before Keyawna sent her verse, but I felt it didn’t match her energy. So Tarek helped me out with co-writing and we created what we have now!
You have written quite a few songs over the past few years, now arriving at "Nose Dive," how would you say you have grown as an artist?
I feel I’ve finally stepped away from boxing myself into one sound or one genre. I’ve got lots of unreleased material that are night and day from each other. I feel that makes me a better artist knowing I’m comfortable with that.
What is next for you this year?
I’ll be headlining the G.O.T.H. Tour with Lil Heavn, $adboi Crxw, and Bquyet starting July 28th. I’ve also got an album that’s like 87% complete that will be out this year.
