EP Review: Rituals - 'Show Me The Signs'

UK towering metallers Rituals release their best work to date with pensive and heavily dissonant new sophomore EP Show Me The Signs.

Contemporary UK metal band Rituals have always pulled from a variety of influences in the metal music world. Shaping a sound that is aggressively intoxicating and lyrically riveting, Rituals continues to shine despite the competitive edge the scene holds. With rich guitar riffs, commanding percussive presence, and memorably vast hooks, the Newcastle metallers continue to evolve for themselves and the genre.

"Defining towering and atmospheric moment, "Oceans Subside," is relentless in its instrumental delivery. A different vibe from the previous listening experience but certainly a welcome one, "Ocean's Subside" features a rawer, harsher, and grimier side to their soundscape."

Their new sophomore EP, Show Me The Signs, is a reflection of that growth. With each track a compelling twist and turn of instrumental and lyrical songwriting, Rituals defines their journey in the industry with charismatic energy, atmosphere, and flow.

Starting with a melodic giant of a track, "Show Me The Signs," Rituals incorporates a heavy and softer tone to their sound, breeding fantastic results in its wake. With gorgeous twangling guitar riffs intertwining with pensive lyricism and impactful percussive cadence, it's not only the perfect start to the EP, but it also prepares us for the highlight of the EP, "Oceans Subside."

Defining, towering, and atmospheric moment, "Oceans Subside," is relentless in its instrumental delivery. A different vibe from the previous listening experience but certainly a welcome one, "Ocean's Subside" features a rawer, harsher, and grimier side to their soundscape.

Show Me The Signs ends with a visceral and brutal finale, "In Devestation." With unremittingly high-octane drums and guitars punctuated with colossal lead guitar riffs and raw aural brilliance, Show Me The Signs ends on a gratifying note.

Show Me The Signs takes three inventive tracks and makes fantastic use of your listening time with them. Filled with unpredictability throughout this short journey, it is worth taking. An aural assault of thoughtful lyricism, unwavering instrumental, and fresh energy, Rituals is bound to make an impression on the scene this year.
