Album Review: Scandroid 'Dreams of Darkness, Visions of Light'

Updated: Dec 13, 2021

After gaining some well-deserved attention from double album tour de force The Darkness, The Light, Scandroid returns with synth remix gem Dreams of Darkness, Visions of Light via FiXT Neon.

Dreams Of Darkness, Visions Of Light is the new remix album by artist Klayton under the Scandroid name via FiXT Neon. Following the monumental success of the double album The Darkness, The Light back in the Fall of 2020, Dreams Of Darkness, Visions of Light is a beautiful atmospheric culmination of electronic production and experimentation at its best.

“Other highlights on the album are "Everywhere You Go," featuring Fury Weekend. A stark reminder of how talented Fury Weekend are as artists in their own right, Fury Weekend puts a gorgeous spin on an already great song and makes it all the more engaging to listen to. Undeniably infectious with melodic synths and bass rhythms that will be stuck in your head for days on end, this is a track that will be stuck on repeat. ”

Ranging from genre styles such as synthwave, synthpop, and post-punk, to vaporwave and chillwave, Scandroid is giving us an impressively prismatic, loaded, celestial soundscape from start to finish for us to enjoy.

Album Opener, "Writing's On The Wall," is a marvel of ethereal electronic energy and orchestration. Immersing us into beautifully crystalized dark synthwave bliss courtesy of FiXT Neon artist DEADLIFE and gritty glitchy atmospheric touches, "Writing's on the Wall" takes us where we need to be for the rest of the album.

Other highlights on the album are "Everywhere You Go," featuring Fury Weekend.

Heavy hitter "The End of Time," featuring 3 Force, takes us down a different road with edgy, crisp, detailed robotic synths, deep alluring bass, and abrasive frenetic energies. Proving that Klayton is a force when it comes to production and musical arrangement, this track is the best example of this and then some. "I Remember You" featuring Lucy in Disguise provides a nice change of pace with lovely, colorful, existential tones that encapsulate the whole feeling of the track.

Remix album Dreams Of Darkness, Visions Of Light is an otherworldly treat of atmospheric ingenuity at its finest. While it is a remix album at its core, Klayton is taking these tracks and his listeners on a grand synthwave exploration and into the sensory world of music in which they thrive. If this was the goal of this album, then on this it succeeds.
