Album Review: We Are Victory 'Afterglow'

Writer: Sammie StarrSammie Starr

Life metal band We Are Victory releases an inspirited and transformative album 'Afterglow' to help many going through difficult times in their lives.

We are all searching for music that has meaning. Music that inspires hope and possesses a raw passion that drives its lyrics and technically experienced instrumentalism. When looking at metalcore bands like We Are Victory, heartfelt honesty has always been important to them.

"No Regrets" is another melodic heavy-hitter on Afterglow that reserves its dynamic and poignant delivery to keep listeners engaged for the final infectious experience, "Afterglow." With contagious guitar riffs and some of the best vocal work, thought-provoking lyricism, and instrumentalism on the record, it's a fantastic way to end Afterglow."

Since they debuted onto the scene with their album 2018 release Signals, their prolific sound, and lyrical candor would spark creative drive for their 2019 release Sirens. Now, with their new 2021 release Afterglow, the life metal band has taken a more expansive atmospheric approach to their instrumental sound.

Afterglow begins with an attractive instrumental and vivid vocal intro to the album, "Prelude "The Afterglow." A gorgeous mix of otherworldly atmospherics, brutal guitar riffs, and impactful percussive blows, it takes us excitedly into what's to come on the album.

Moments like "Resurgence" are beautiful, nostalgic orchestral aggressive bliss intertwined with rich multi-ranged vocal control. Saying that the atmospheric qualities within this track are simply an understatement when you begin to unpack everything from its teeming guitar work to its potent drum energy. One of the best tracks on the record, "Resurgence" will be a highlight many will return to on Afterglow.

Another highlight among this record is "These Walls," featuring Aaron Ward of Keep Me Alive. We Are Victory are very good at keeping orchestral and heavy elements balanced within their instrumental framework, and "These Walls" showcases this beautifully.

"No Regrets" is another melodic heavy-hitter on Afterglow that reserves its dynamic and poignant delivery to keep listeners engaged for the final infectious experience, "Afterglow." With contagious guitar riffs and some of the best vocal work, thought-provoking lyricism, and instrumentalism on the record, it's a fantastic way to end Afterglow.

Afterglow is not only trying to help people through hard times, and we certainly have had plenty of them collectively within the last and current year, but a beacon of light to show others they are not alone in their pain and suffering. If We Are Victory continues to craft impressive works that inspire change and hope during times like these where we need it most, this band will go far.
