EP Review: Ali Slater- 'LUS!D'

Alternative/pop-punk solo artist Ali Slater drops genre immersive and emotionally-charged EP, LUS!D.

When it comes to the women emerging in the alternative rock industry, something needs to stand out for you to make your mark in the genre. Ali Slater knew when she started making music and playing piano at the age of four, she would have to compete against a lot, but that would not deter her from her dreams of becoming a musician.

“While "Over It," featuring ex-guitarist of Falling In Reverse Jacky Vincent, is a nostalgic pop-punk gem that will keep the energy going, other heavy hitters such as "Ring Shopping" completely steal the show on the EP. A different kind of instrumental energy compared to the rest of the tracks on LUS!D, its massive guitar presence and gravid percussive presence leaves a lasting impression after the EP is finished. ”

An artist that has formed a kaleidoscopically gorgeous view of what you can do with the alternative genre if you sit down and creatively hold no boundaries against your craft. New EP LUS!D tests these boundaries and more, showing that the makeup of a genre is much more than just one stationary sound.

Starting with the first track, "Without You," Slater kicks things into high atmospheric gear with a dramatically intense instrumental intro. Coupled with her experienced vocal control and emotionally engaging lyricism, it's the perfect track to set the tone and theme for what LUC!D is drawing up for the rest of the listening experience.

The closing last track, "LUS!D" is an infectious replayable pop-punk number as it is a self-confident closing experience. Slater has aimed for a strong female voice and character, along with immersively charged lyricism throughout the EP, and this last track conveys all of her talents as a solo artist.

LUS!D is a fundamentally surprising great start for the budding solo artist. A strong message throughout for others to take accountability for the wrongs they committed to others, while also a backstage take on knowing your self-worth, Ali Slater has written an EP that will take notice in the alternative scene.
