Album Review: Within Destruction - 'Lotus'

Slovenian multigenre metalcore heavy-hitters Within Destruction release one of their most engaging and impressive records to date, Lotus.

When it comes to bands like Within Destruction, you can guarantee that you will never get the same sound twice within the listening journey of an album. Lotus, their new release, takes their lyrical and soundscape to another level, combining metalcore, hardcore, and deathcore roots into one engaging experience.

"The beautiful celestial experience, "Dying World," featuring Lil Lotus, is a comforting yet contrasting experience on the record, yet does not destroy the heaviness or the multigenre vibes Within Destruction does so well in the soundscape building thus far."

Starting with the lead track, "Lotus," Within Destruction pulls us in with an aggressive, gritty pandemonium of electro-metalcore bliss that pulsates through your veins and energizes the listener for what's to come for the rest of the album.

Other moments like "Toxic" show off their melodic guitar and synth dominance, which gorgeously takes us into other amazing heavy-hitting junctures. "Nightmare" throughout "Revenge" pulls no punches in asserting its expression of assailing guitar riffs, impactful percussive energies, and multi-faceted vocals.

The beautiful celestial experience, "Dying World," featuring Lil Lotus, is a comforting yet contrasting experience on the record, yet does not destroy the heaviness or the multigenre vibes Within Destruction does so well in the soundscape building thus far.

Dark djent/ deathcore number "Dehumanized" spices things up again on the record, showing off not only their technical prowess but also their creative atmospheric skill as well as artists. The sonic textures deepen once more with another gem on the album, "Illusion," with guitar techniques, a solo, and ethereal zeal that further enriches the experience unlike any track previously.

The album elegantly ends with the magnificently crafted finale, "Ultima." Combining an attractive blend of all their talents into one sublime instrumental listening experience, Lotus delivers on a satisfying note.

With a successful five-album career, Within Destruction is proving they still have what it takes and more with their new release Lotus. Lotus delivers a ferociously entertaining vibe and keeps the energy alive the entire way through, with loads of atmospheric zest and instrumental ingenuity in each listening experience. When it comes to great bands, Within Destruction may be one of the scene's most underappreciated jewels, but solid releases like Lotus certainly change that dynamic.
