New up-and-coming band, Pale Covenant, releases new otherworldly yet deeply human single, "Drown Beneath The Tide."
Sometimes, when it comes to creating a band, such intentions don’t come from the desire for their music to be recognized, but for a far deeper need: to channel the desire to unmask the unseen, to expose raw and emotional truths that often go unspoken. Conceived from the quiet spaces that are frequently revealed through grief and catharsis, Pale Covenant sought to create a project born from collective experience rather than personal spotlight. From the beginning, the intent was clear about what this project would stand for: To craft a musical experience that dwells in the shadows yet directly opens a door to speak to one’s soul.

By embracing the journey of exploring atmosphere, ritual, and emotional intensity, Pale Covenant has mirrored their own inner struggles: grief, rage, hope, and release, in their latest single, “Drown Beneath The Tide,” a musical experience that is moving, otherworldly, yet deeply human all at once. “Drown Beneath The Tide” was not conceived by a regular studio creative process, but from silence. Within the aftermath of personal reckonings, familiar echoes, and new blood, Pale Covenant have come together through shared disillusionment and performative artistry, choosing to strip away personal gain and identity, allowing “Drown Beneath The Tide” to speak through unfiltered honesty.
So talk to me about Pale Convenant. How did that concept evolve and come to fruition? What sparked or ignited your desire to create this new project?
Pale Covenant: From the beginning, the vision of Pale Covenant has been to create something that exists in the shadows yet still connects to the struggles and emotions we all face. We remain hidden because the focus should never be on the individual, but on the collective experience the music carries. In that sense, we walk the same path as everyone else, grief, anger, hope, and release, but we choose to express it differently, through atmosphere, intensity, and a sense of ritual. It’s about giving people a reflection of their own battles in a way that feels otherworldly, but still deeply human.”
You were a mask. I know you are inspired by some pretty big bands like Sleep Token and Bring Me The Horizon. Both are UK bands that have pushed boundaries in heavy music. But they diverge in their styles, philosophies, and obviously, presentation. When you listen to Sleep Token, it feels like you are going through some sort of rich, cinematic out-of-body experience, spiritual, in a sense, while there is this bold sort of intricate use of electronic and pop elements in the latter, and there is this aggressively charged presence within Bring Me The Horizon’s music. How do these influences within this new project you are working on coincide with the vision for your music?
Pale Covenant: We draw from the voices that shaped us, but we refuse to be bound by them. Our music is a collision of familiar echoes and new blood, a merging of influences into something we ourselves would be compelled to listen to. It’s about honoring what came before while forging a sound that feels alive, unpredictable, and our own.
Can we discuss the creative process for your new single, "Drown Beneath The Tide"? In what way was this different from anything else you worked on in the past? How did this creative process shape this project?
Pale Covenant: The creation was not instant. It was a cycle of tearing down and rebuilding until the pieces aligned. Finding the voice to embody our sound was a struggle, but a necessary one. Every moment of tension, every change, was part of shaping something that felt not just true to us, but stronger than what came before.
Listening to a lot of the tones and textures on this new single, there are a lot of deep, heavy, and atmospheric soundscapes that encompass this new track. I know we talked a bit about band influences, but were there other inspirations for that? Did you experiment with anything new when it came to creating this haunting world musically for this new track?
Pale Covenant: We’ve always been drawn to vast soundscapes, the kind that carry weight beyond the notes themselves. The theatrical edge of bands like Sleep Token and Ice Nine Kills has shaped us, but rather than echoing what already exists, we sought to carve out something new within our own catalogue. A sound that feels familiar in spirit, yet distinctly ours.
Lyrically, "Drown Beneath The Tide" delves deep into the emotional landscape of despair and resilience, vividly capturing the sensation of being dragged beneath the surface by an insurmountable heaviness. The imagery evokes a powerful struggle, as the protagonist fights desperately against the crushing weight while yearning to break free and resurface. Each line encapsulates the tension between surrender and the will to survive, creating a poignant portrayal of both vulnerability and strength. What inspired you to write this new single?
Pale Covenant: This track was born from struggle, fragments of our own lives woven into the music. It became a release, a way to let the weight bleed out, but also a reminder to anyone listening that you are never alone in the darkness. There is always a voice echoing back.
How does this new project reflect where you are now? How do you feel this project has helped you grow as an artist? Do you feel any life experiences helped make this project what it is now?
Pale Covenant: This project is less a release and more an unveiling, a long-held dream finally cast into the world. Through it, we reveal the fractures and shadows we share with others. Our struggles are not separate, only veiled, and this music is the ritual that lifts that veil to show how alike we truly are.
